RE: Hg data from land applied POTW sludge

Nancy--

I don't have a direct answer but a colleague reminded me that the National Academy of Sciences issued a report on sludge, uh, I mean, biosolids in 2002. See www.nas.edu or www.nap.edu (National Academy Press). I do not know if the report addresses your specific questions.
Biosolids Applied to Land: Advancing Standards and Practices (2002) http://books.nap.edu/catalog/10426.html
Use of Reclaimed Water and Sludge in Food Crop Production (1996) http://books.nap.edu/catalog/5175.html
The same colleague also suggested using Science Direct ( www.sciencedirect.com ) to search Chemosphere and similar journals. Environmental Science and Technology doesn't seem to be covered by Science Direct and would require a separate search ( http://pubs.acs.org/archives/index.html )

I hope this is helpful.

> Can anyone point to or share mercury-related research data from studies where POTW sludge has been applied? Specifically we are looking for:
> 1. the uptake of mercury by terrestrial macroinvertebrates and/or various crops,
> 2. the forms that are most readily available,
> 3. the potential bioaccumulation issues,
> 4. and the presence of Hg in stormwater run off from these fields and how that might contribute to surface water contamination.
