Re: FW: Please post on P2tech

I think there is standard information of this type that all shops use
for estimating purposes. I have not looked at a collision manual for a
long time, but I recall that they include information on both time (to
repair or replace a part, or to paint a part) and materials (how much
paint is needed to paint a panel). These are now available as part of
computer based estimating systems.

How much excess paint are they mixing. If they are always mixing much
too much paint, why don't they start always mixing a little less paint?
How does the amount of paint they are mixing compare to the amount of
paint they are getting paid for by the customer or insurance company?

The automotive refinishing mix systems all appear to do a
great job of color matching and recipe formulating. But I
was in a shop that has a major problem in always mixing too
much- just in case. Does anyone know of a mixing system
that helps a painter get closer to the correct amount for
the job? Something like: this color for this make, year
and model- but adding- mix this much for the hood, this
much for the front quarter panel, this much for the trunk,
etc. I would appreciate any insight. Thanks.
