Re: Looking for best-of-best auto refinishing materials/emissions reduction data

Dear Leif and other P2-techs,

You might find these recent articles from the Journal of Industrial Ecology (< http://mitpress.mit.edu/JIE>) to be useful in your work on auto body shops.

Roelant, G. J., A. J. Kemppainen, and D. R. Shonnard. 2004. Assessment of the automobile assembly paint process for energy, environmental, and economic improvement. Journal of Industrial Ecology 8(1-2): 173-191(119).

Rentz, O. and J. Geldermann. 2004. Decision support through mass and energy flow management in the vehicle-refinishing sector. Journal of Industrial Ecology 8(4): 173-188.

I hope you are having great summer.

I am a member of an EPA Workgroup that is developing and ranking a list
of feasible best practices that reduce air emissions from auto body
shops.   Best-of-the-best outreach materials are also being collected.
If you are aware of specific documentation of emissions reductions from
practices, technologies, and safer substitutes - along with associated
costs/savings - and outreach materials, please send them to Mary
Cushmac, with a cc. to me: cushmac.mary@epa.gov.
