RE: Clearly, a call to action for the P2 community....

Have you ever met me? Seen a recent photo?

Let's just say that my wife and my doctor would both endorse any plan
that made me more resistant to chocolate. <sigh>

Not the svelte young man I once was,

Having done work for a plant that made snack cakes, such a plan can
backfire. If you smell the odors for long periods in concentrated form,
you can be turned off by the regular product.

P2TECHies --

The following press release from EPA Region 5 came across my inbox this
a.m., and I have to say that upon reading it, I felt an immediate bias
for action.

I think that we ought to descend en-masse upon the facility and offer to
help them with their emissions problems.

Of course the first step in helping such a facility is to become
intimately familiar with their processes and, more importantly, their
products.

Any other volunteers??

Have a good weekend.

Subject: [r5news] EPA cites Blommer Chocolate for clean-air violations

CONTACT: William Omohundro, (312) 353-8254

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No. 05-OPA234

EPA cites Blommer Chocolate for clean-air violations

CHICAGO (Nov. 2, 2005) -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5
has cited Blommer Chocolate Co. for alleged clean-air violations at the
company's chocolate products factory at 600 W. Kinzie St., Chicago.

EPA alleges that on Sept. 1-2, 2005, an EPA inspector observed visible
particulate emissions (dust) from Blommer's grinders that exceeded
limits for opacity, which is the amount of light obscured by the
emissions. The inspection was done in response to a citizen complaint
regarding odor and visible emissions.

These are preliminary findings of violations. To resolve them, EPA may
issue a compliance order, assess an administrative penalty or bring suit
against the company. Blommer has 30 days from receipt of the notice to
meet with EPA to discuss resolving the allegations.

Inhaling high concentrations of particulates can affect children, the
elderly and people with heart and lung diseases the most.
