FW: Household Aspect/Impact List

Karen,
Tiffin Shewmake in Maryland is already doing something very similar to what you are wanting to do, I think.  She is building a household EMS workbook.  She says it would be fine to share her contact information (See below).

Good luck!

Diana,

What great timing and thank you for remembering my presentation.  I have been working on the approach for a personal EMS (which I am calling the ecoIplan) and the design and have started to identify the household environmental impact areas.  At the moment, I am in discussions with the Montgomery County Department of Environment on working together to create the ecoIplan workbook.  While plans are not finalized, the direction we are going is that the workbook would be available for free from the County website and the hardcopy could be purchased.  I am also planning a Train-the-trainer presentation.  My thought is that we can reach many more people by training community leaders (with government, NGOs, etc.) who could then go back to their groups.

Collaboration would be great because the workbook will be better with the input from more people.  Also, if it is something that she can use, then her time can be spent on outreach to get people engaged rather than duplicating what we are doing.  Along those lines – one of my goals for the workbook is to make it a framework for change that builds on the work of the many other groups and websites who are compiling information on “greening.”

So please, do give her my name and contact information.

Thank you again.

Tiffin

Hi, Tiffin,

The post below came in on a listserv to which I subscribe.  I saw your presentation on the household EMS idea in New Orleans.  Is this a collaboration opportunity?  Can I let Karen know that you have been working on a similar idea?

I’m working on a tool to help citizens understand their daily impacts on the environment mostly focused on the activities that take place in their own home.  I’ve been asked to attack this project as if we were designing an EMS for a household.  Has anyone already done this and is willing to share their information?  I know there’s tons of info out there on what the average citizen can do…but I’ve never seen a “Household Aspect/Impact List”.
