Safer Alternatives for Auto Repair Cleaning

Join us for a Webinar on September 30, 2008

This webinar focuses on low-VOC, low toxicity cleaning alternatives for the auto repair industry.  It describes technical projects that were completed over the last 10 years in California.  The targeted cleaning applications that will be discussed are parts cleaning, brake cleaning and automotive aerosol cleaning.  IRTA identified, developed, tested and demonstrated safer alternatives in these applications. State and local regulatory agencies have adopted regulations that require the use of low-VOC cleaners.  Alternatives that are used and proved successful are water-based cleaners, soy cleaners and acetone based cleaners.  Acetone is not classified as a VOC and is lower in toxicity than almost all other organic solvents.  The use of the alternatives has reduced VOC emissions by more than 46 tons per day.  It has also reduce worker and community exposure to toxic solvents.
