Subject: [JTRProfessionalRecyclersNetwork] potassium
iodide
Don Mauer from NH is looking for help trying to
find an alternative to disposal for managing Potassium Iodide tablets that are
past their useful life. If you have any suggestions, please respond to him
directly, as he is not on the JTR listserve, Brenda
G.
The
State of New Hampshire has 2 pallets of Potassium Iodide tablets that are
individually wrapped in aluminum foil packets. These were to be used in
case our Seabrook, NH or Vermont's Yankee nuclear power plant had a release
accident. They have expired. While they can be landfilled, that is
fundamentally not a sound idea. Has any other state had this issue and how
have you resolved it? We would love to find a recycling opportunity for
these.
