Greetings all - Forwarded fyi is this report out from Jack Hodge
regarding the 2006 Industry Days & 10th Annual Science Vessel
Coordination Workshop. From the perspective of GLASS, I feel that our
collaboration with the GLCA added a lot to the quality of the
presentations. We will be looking for opportunities to reach out to
Canadian operators and continue contributing to the program in 2007. I
plan to post some of the presentation material on the www.canamGLASS.org
site, particularly for those who missed presentations later in the
program. I have already posted a copy of the Seaworthiness paper that
was presented by Peter Worden in the documents section and links to all
the vendors sites. If you have any suggestions on how we might add to
the discussion of science vessel issues, improve Canadian participation
or anything else I would appreciate an e-mail prior to March 23rd, when
the next meeting is scheduled to discuss our 2007 program. Many thanks
to John Tanner for providing all the resources of the Academy and to
Jack Cork for offering to include a GLASS representative to the GLCA
board of directors. Dennis Donahue has volunteered to serve in that
role.

Subject: 2006 Industry Days.
Dear GLCA, GLASS Members and Friends,
the 2006 Industry Days Conference brought a lot of old friends together
and formed many new friendships. Our efforts to bring the GLCA and
GLASS together for the second year was a success, with a 40% increase in
attendance from the previous year. Many thanks to all who helped in
this endeavor from both organizations, presenters, vendors and the
Holiday Inn West Bay.
The group was diverse representing many areas of the Maritime Industry,
the information shared during the conference and after hours through
socializing is priceless. Most everyone one I spoke with over the three
days there seemed to be very happy with the pricing and quality of
accommodations and meals, there were a couple glitches in the program at
the Maritime Academy that disappointed some attendees and these will be
addressed at the next meeting of the planning group, there is no doubt
that this can be rectified for next year.
Through the critiques that were filled out and turned in (about 25%) and
the many conversations during the conference it has been decided that
next years conference will end on Friday at Noon to give everyone a
chance to attend the entire program. That shows that the Associations
do value your input and that the other 75% should fill out and send your
critiques to Jack Cork, or you may send E-mail suggestions/comments to
any board member, Mark Burrows, Dennis Donahue or myself if that would
be easier for you, so your opinion can be included in the summary.
Those of you who have yet to join the GLCA should take advantage of Jack
Cork's generous offer of membership for a mere $35.00 per year, that
price reflects absolutely no discount... but, your membership will not
be prorated, so your membership will be good until June 30, 2007. So
join this happy group and get involved.
The GLCA Scholarship Fund raised $2681.00 dollars including a generous
$500.00 individual gift. The silent auction items that were donated
were all great items and we thank the individuals/companies for there
generosity. Many thanks to all who gave and those who intend to.
Please remember that the scholarship fund brochure is on the website for
you to download and share with others who wish to contribute to this
great cause. Also, if you did not get a Sherwin Williams "Neighbor to
Neighbor" discount card, offering 20% off all items and 5% all sale
items including marine products, please contact one of the officers and
get as many as you like, if your neighbor is going to paint his house or
if your hometown is going to "paint the town" the company give a
percentage to the association which goes into the scholarship fund.
There will be more info coming out to you in our next newsletter and a
call for ideas regarding next years conference including a theme. There
were requests to add a theme to the conferences from now on, which would
give us a chance to concentrate on a specific area of concern, if you
have a theme send it to one of the members listed above, if you believe
this would limit participation, let your voice be heard, positive or
negative your opinion counts.
It was a real pleasure to visit with friends and meet new ones. I
almost wish we could afford to do this twice a year...just kidding.
Hope everyone has a safe and prosperous season. See you next January.
Thank You.
Jack Hodge
Please forward this to anyone who might not be on the GLCA group
E-mailing list and would want to see it. TY
