River day 2000 Activities
Saturday, June 3rd
River Day 2000 is a celebration of Rivers in Southeast Michigan. The Huron
River Watershed Council is organizing events throughout the watershed.
River Day begins with a free breakfast at Delhi Metropark from 9:30-11:00
with an overview of the day's events.
Birdwatching: 10:00-12:00. Join a Boy Scout troop in a guided tour at
Kensington Metropark to learn the basics of birdwatching and identification.

Clean-up: 11:00-1:00. Help clean-up areas of Miller's creek in Northeast
Ann Arbor with the SouthEast Michigan Coalition on Environmental and Jewish
Living. Contact: Lucy Hadden. 734.647.0917.
Stormdrain Stenciling: 10:00-1:00. The Sierra Club Crossroads Group in
Livingston County invites all to help them stencil stormdrains in downtown
Brighton. Contact Emily Gobright, (h) 810.227.3652. (w) 517.548.0595.
Clean-up: 12:30-3:00. Join in on a clean-up of Malletts Creek in Southeat
Ann Arbor with the Social Action Group of Temple Beth Emeth. Meet at NCMS
parking lot on Boardwalk, off Eisenhower.
Bank Stabilization: 11:00-1:30. The City of Ann Arbor's Natural Areas
Program invites all to help stabilize river banks along the east side of
Argo Pond in Ann Arbor . Meet at North end of Argo Canoe livery.
Canoe Trip: Starting at 7:30 a.m. at Hudson Mills Metropark. Canoeing to
Delhi Metropark for kick-off breakfast. Leaving Delhi Metropark at 11:00
and canoeing on to Argo Pond. Call John Maddox: 313.323.0394.
River-friendly Landscape Tour: 2:00-5:00. Learn about river-friendly
landscapes on a tour of homes and yards in Malletts and Allens creekshed of
Ann Arbor. This self-guided tour includes 8 homes with informative
materials describing the landscaping techniques used at each location.
Begin tour at Ron Emaus' house, 2503 Hampshire.
Clean-up 11:00-2:00. Join Limnotech, Inc. in a clean-up of Traver Creek in
North/Central Ann Arbor. Contact Carrie Turner, 734.332.1200.
Ford Lake Education Fair 11:00-4:00. Learn about the Ford Lake
ecosystem-including insects, plants, fish, and algae. At Ford Lake Park,
Pavilion #3.
