Title: Open space

Below is a story from Crain's Detroit Business News,

Does anyone know if the State of Michigan even considered making all or part of the this 713 acres within 10 miles of Ann Arbor into a park?

     Who made the decision?

The state will not develop a 713-acre parcel of land it owns in York Township, now that Pfizer Global Research & Development in Ann Arbor has struck a deal with the University of Michigan to buy land in the city.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. had hoped a major user would help bring utilities to the property, something the township now will have to do at a cost that could run into the millions.

York Township is on Washtenaw County's southern border, south of Pittsfield Township and Ann Arbor.
Pfizer was interested in the property for its expansion plans and had performed due diligence on the parcel, said Jeff Kaczmarek, senior vice president for business and community services at the MEDC.

Now, the MEDC will work with the state Department of Management and Budget to sell the property to a private developer, Kaczmarek said.

The agency has been working with York Township for about two years and had hoped to develop a technology research park there.

Kaczmarek said the MEDC still will market the site; it just won't be the developer.

The state is selling the land because the Center for Forensic Psychiatry is moving to a new building on the northern part of the site and only needs part of the property.
