WHAT: A Forum/Workshop on Michigan's Water: Supply and Quality

Please join us at for a forum and strategy discussion about protecting Michigan's waster.

Presenters include:  Washtenaw County Drain Commissioner Janis Bobrin, James Clift of the Michigan Environmental Council, and Elizabeth Riggs from the Huron River Watershed Council

Advance registration is encouraged (by Oct. 10).  Registration will also be available at the door. The $15 registration fee covers  the costs of lunch, printing and mailing.  For more information, contact Alan Connor at   alconn@umich.edu

                 Directions:
>From I-94 or Old U. S. 12 take M-52 North through Chelsea to Waterloo Road about 2 miles North of town.
Turn left (West) on Waterloo about 3/4th of a mile. Bear right on Oak Ridge, then right on Clark Lake. The entrance to Friends Lake Community is about 50 yards on the left.
From I-96 take exit 122. Go South on M-52 through Stockbridge to Waterloo Road. Turn right on Waterloo and follow the above directions.

Panelists
Janis Bobrin has been Washtenaw County's Drain Commissioner since1989. In that capacity, Ms. Bobrin oversees construction, operation and maintenance of the county's storm water systems. The impact of storm water sewerage and run-off on the environment and water quality are a major focus of her office. Priior to being Drain Commissioner, Ms. Bobrin was an environmental planner with SEMCOG. There she nmanaged ground and surface water protection projects. She is Chair of the Huron River Watershed Council, a member of the state's Environmental and Economic Roundtable and the DEQ's Environmental Quality Nonpoint Source Advisory Committee and has a masters degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan.

Elizabeth Riggs has worked for the Huron River watershed Council the past three years coordinating the Middle Huron Initiative. In that capacity she assists local governments in Washtenaw, Western Wayne counties and the University of Michigan reduce water poolution to meet federal Clean Water Act standards. Pesently she is working a management program for the Mill Creek subwatershed in Western Washtenaw. Ms. Riggs has a masters degree natural resources and environment from the University of Micigan School of Nzatural Resources.

James Clift is Policy Director for the Michigan Environmenal Council. He assists 50 environmental and public health organizations with policy development. Mr. Clift monitors environmental and related legislation, education and interacts with the media on environmental and public health issues. >From 1995-1998, Mr. Clift was Policy Director for the Michigan Senate Democratic Office. From 1989-1995, he was the Environmental Policy Analyst for the Michigan Senate Democratic Office. In that role he prepared amendments to bills and assisted senators in their interaction with the Depts of Environmental Quality and Natural Resources.
