NOAA GLERL's GLANSIS project (3/28) NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory's GLANSIS - Great Lakes Aquatic Nonindigenous Species Information System - received funding for several improvements in support of early detection and rapid response, including the addition of high priority “watchlist” species.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on bighead carp (3/25) This week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published a final rule that bighead carp are an injurious species, an action that arose from requests from the Great Lakes region. Details are available in the Federal Register.

GLRI 2011 Request for Applications (3/23) EPA is soliciting applications for grants and cooperative agreements to be awarded as part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). Up to $40 million may be awarded under this request for applications, for about 150 projects. The application deadline is April 11, 2011.

IJC releases 15th Biennial Report (3/10) The International Joint Commission of the United States and Canada (IJC) released its 15th Biennial Report on Great Lakes Water Quality this week. The report is available on the IJC website.
Natural lawn care workshop highlights healthy alternative (3/9) Safer Pest Control Project (SPCP), with the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association, Midwest Ecological Landscaping Association, and its partners on the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Grant—Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, Lake Champlain Sea Grant, University of Illinois Extension, and Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning—will host a one-day workshop on Natural Lawn Care on March 23.
