PERSISTENT BIOACCUMULATIVE TOXICS (PBT)
REDUCTION STRATEGY TEAM

DRAFTING TEAM

Three broad categories of PBTs will be addressed in the 4-5 page PBT Reduction Strategy:

  1. In-Use Priority Pollutants (e.g., mercury, dioxins)
  2. Banned Pesticides (e.g., DDT, toxaphene)
  3. Emerging Chemicals of Concern (e.g., PDBEs, APEs, pharmaceuticals)

Upcoming Calls

There will be a drafting team conference call on Tuesday, March 8th, at 10:30 Central (11:30 Eastern). The call-in number is 202-275-0166 / 1222#.

Following calls are planned to take place on March 22nd; April 5th and 19th; and May 3rd, 17th and 31st at the same time and call-in number listed above.

Duties

A drafting team will be assembled which should represent a range of PBT Reduction Strategy Team participants (e.g., Federal, Tribal, State, NGO representatives on each drafting team). The PBT Reduction Strategy Team Co-Chairs will select the drafting team leader(s). The final composition of the team will be determined by the co-chairs. All PBT team members should indicate their area of interest via this web form (currently inactive).

The drafting team will write an action plan (not to exceed 5 pages) for each of the three categories above and append supporting documents. Each drafting team must follow the organizing concepts framework provided and should include a prioritized list of recommendations. Drafting team leader(s) are responsible for attaining consensus among the drafting team members. If consensus cannot be reached, the drafting teams should ask the PBT Reduction Strategy Team co-chairs for guidance.

Drafting team conference calls will occur as determined by the leader(s) of the drafting team. The purpose of the calls will be to discuss progress and specific issues and to attain consensus on the draft action plans.
