Dear Great Lakes Beach Managers:

A lot of good things are happening at Great Lakes beaches and we need to ensure beach managers around the region are informed and equipped with the latest in best beach management practices. Your input and experience is requested.

The Great Lakes Regional Collaboration (<http://www.glrc.us/>GLRC) Strategy<http://www.glrc.us/> identifies coastal health as a priority recognizing the significance of beaches to the economic well-being, health and quality of life of the region's citizens. The GLRC Clean Beaches Initiative<http://www.glrc.us/initiatives/beaches/index.html> is an effort to help encourage the implementation of best beach management practices, including the use of sanitary surveys and actions to remediate contamination sources, as outlined by the GLRC Strategy. The GLRC Clean Beaches Initiative workgroup is comprised of federal, state, local, and tribal partners.

To help gather information on best practices, remediation efforts, predictive modeling, and more related to beach management, partners of the GLRC Clean Beaches Initiative have developed a brief questionnaire for beach managers to complete. We understand folks are pressed for time, but we think the information we can glean from this questionnaire is valuable and will be of great benefit to beach managers around the region and beyond. Thanks to those of you who have already completed a questionnaire about your beach.

You can access the questionnaire on Survey Monkey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=zagzHwc65oxaxvPwdFJxdg_3d_3d. If you can't click on the link, please copy and paste it into your web browser.

Please complete the survey by October 16, 2009.

The goal is to use the responses we get to develop a resource for beach managers on best beach management practices. Ultimately, we hope to provide beach managers with information that will help keep our Great Lakes beaches healthy and safe. Based on the responses we receive, we plan to develop and launch a resource for beach managers.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at melissa.soline at glslcities.org<mailto:melissa.soline at glslcities.org> / 312-201-4517. I'd be happy to talk through the questionnaire with you if you'd prefer.

Thanks,
Melissa
