Officials say proposed ballast water regulation could shut down Port of Oswego, St. Lawrence Seaway

The federal Environmental Protection Agency is set to issue regulations on ballast water release from ships by the end of this month. Collister Johnson Jr., administrator of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corp., said the U.S. Coast Guard will follow with its regulations soon after. Nutrient management key to reducing dissolved phosphorus in lakes

Farmers and other key stakeholders successfully reduced total phosphorus going into Lake Erie over the past 50 years, but must revaluate nutrient management practices to more effectively manage dissolved phosphorus in those same bodies of water, according to one Ohio State University Extension expert.
