Ice boom to be removed, earliest ever

The New York Power Authority and Ontario Power Generation are set to remove 
the ice boom on Lake Erie and the Niagara River. It will be the earliest the

Other dangers could lurk in an ice-free Lake Erie

As of now, the Great Lakes' ice cover stands at only 5 percent. The last 
time we've seen this little was the winter of 2001-2002, 10 years ago.
