The recovery operation will also sample lake water and sediment next to the barrels. The lakes are home to an enormous supply of wind. And if placed far enough offshore, turbines would be practically - if not literally - invisible to the public. Cities such as Toledo, Ohio, which has a large network of underground pipes near Lake Erie, should heed the lessons of the spill.
