Source: Chicago Tribune (8/13) Commission has federal grant to test water quality at Green Bay's Bay Beach ------------------------------------------------- The last time swimming was allowed at Green Bay’s Bay Beach, FDR was in the White House and the Great Depression was under way. Nearly 80 years later, planners are launching a study to determine whether the water quality has been restored and whether the beach can be reopened. Source: Sarnia Observer (8/11) US Great Lakes Iron ore shipments continue to climb in July ------------------------------------------------- The Lake Carriers' Association reported that iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 6.9 million tons in July, an increase of 6.3% compared to June, but a decrease of 2.2% compared to a year ago. Shipments were, however, more than 12% ahead of July's five year average. Fisheries managers estimate about half the lake's chinook are wild, naturally reproduced fish hatched in Michigan streams or migrants from Lake Huron.
