Lawmaker wants review of Lake Michigan outflows

water releases from Lake Michigan through an outlet at Chicago, a 
century-old practice that she said should end as Great Lakes levels approach

With near record-low Lake Michigan water levels, dredging projects on the 
way in South Haven

With water levels in Lake Michigan approaching record lows, the city of 
South Haven is considering marina dredging projects this winter. Paul 
VandenBosch, harbormaster for the city of South Haven, said he expects the 
city council to approve a bid for the projects at its Dec. 3 meeting.

Bill may increase renewable energy competitiveness; possible implications 
for Prop. 3

Renewable energy companies could get some of the same tax and funding 
benefits that fossil fuel companies enjoy under a bill now before the U.S. 
Congress. The Master Limited Partnerships Parity Act would let renewable 
companies form businesses that are taxed as a partnership yet can be

Shippers, government see strong maritime future

A U.S. maritime commerce official said Thursday cargo ship operators are 
showing confidence in economic opportunities in the Great Lakes and St. 
Lawrence Seaway by spending billions of dollars to upgrade their fleets.

Engineers warn of even lower Great Lakes water levels

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will release its six-month Great Lakes 
water levels forecast Monday, a report that will likely include a strong

Michigan, in the 1970s and 1980s, was a leader in environmental and public 
health policies. This enabled the healthier air and water we enjoy today. 
But the task of protecting our children from environmental toxins, our urban 
residents from industrial pollution, and keeping our Great Lakes waters
