DNR: Fisheries net $20 million for state economy

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources' Fisheries Division recently 
released data from its 2012 state-licensed commercial fishing season. The 
total store value of the state-licensed fishery is worth nearly $20 million

State dredging bill awaits Snyder's signature

The Michigan Senate Thursday approved and sent to Gov. Rick Snyder 
legislation for $21 million to fund 49 emergency dredging projects he 
proposed to address historically low Great Lakes levels. He is expected to

Fed funding targets dry docks in St. Catharines

The 80-year-old Port Weller Dry Docks in Port Weller, Ont., have been slated 
for a $5-million federal facelift. The money - set aside to rehabilitate the 
aging dry docks in 2013 and 2014 - was announced in Thursday's federal

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sets air and water discharge limits 
for sewage plants and factories, based upon known risks to human health.

Everyone has been waiting for the other shoe to drop, this time on Lake 
Michigan's salmon fishery. When aquatic invasive species disrupt the food 
web, alewives aren't the only things that suffer. The salmon shrink and

Observatory prepares for spring radar study of migration

With one eye on the federal government's budget situation, the Black Swamp 
Bird Observatory in Oak Harbor, Oh., is hopeful there will be another radar 
study this spring of the flight patterns of migratory birds along the Lake

'Pure Michigan' tourism campaign kicks off $13M effort

Michigan's "Pure Michigan" tourism campaign is kicking off a $13 million 
national cable television advertising effort. The new campaign runs through 
the end of June, and television commercials will air nationally more than
