Michael Turner to Hold Housing Field Hearing in Dayton Great Ships Initiative Land-Based Test of Ballast Treatment System to Commence The Great Ships Initiative will commence testing of a proposed ballast treatment system developed by the Siemens Corporation this week. The Siemens team indicated that it made significant modifications to the treatment method following testing at the Marine Environmental Research Center in Maryland earlier this summer. The method employs electrolytic chlorination and filtration. Ballast treatment testing at the land-based scale provides important opportunities for designers of treatment systems to refine their methods for achieving ballast treatment requirements, as well validating their ability to do so under challenging conditions.
