These events provide a great opportunity for the region's policymakers and opinion leaders, as well as members of Congress and staff, to share priorities for the region. Promoting our Great Lakes federal policy agenda is more important than ever this year following the approval of the new Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. It is important that we take this time to thank Congress and the Administration and make sure they recognize that continued investment in the Great Lakes will yield significant environmental and economic benefits. Scheduled Events The Great Lakes Commission Semiannual Meeting will start at 1 p.m. on Feb. 22 and conclude at noon on Feb. 23. Meeting events will be held at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel (14th and K Streets, NW). An evening reception on Feb. 22 will be held at the hotel. The Great Lakes Commission, as well as the Healing Our WatersR-Great Lakes Coalition and other regional organizations, will be visiting congressional offices throughout the week. A joint briefing session and other preparatory sessions will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 23. A reception sponsored by the Healing Our WatersR - Great Lakes Coalition and the Government of Canada will be held at the Canadian Embassy on the evening of Feb. 23. The Great Lakes Congressional Breakfast Reception on Feb. 24 will be held in Room 2168 (Gold Room) of the Rayburn House Office Building from 8-9:30 a.m. The reception includes a continental breakfast sponsored by the Great Lakes Commission and Northeast-Midwest Institute. Invited guests include members of the Great Lakes Congressional Delegation, Great Lakes governors, mayors and tribes, and congressional staff. Lodging - book your room now! A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza at the reduced rate of $233 per night; please reference the Great Lakes Commission when making your reservation.
