           Site of the Month: St. Lawrence Seaway 50th Anniversary

            GLIN's June Site of the Month is the St. Lawrence Seaway 50th Anniversary. The waterway was officially inaugurated on June 26, 1959, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and U.S. President Eisenhower. In the 50 years since completion, the Seaway has facilitated the shipment of more than 2.3 billion tons of cargo, valued in excess of $350 billion, to and from some 50 nations. The Seaway has been recognized as an engineering marvel by organizations in both Canada and the United States, as well as a successful model of binational cooperation.

            The Great Lakes Cruising Coalition is a joint American-Canadian cooperative venture committed to supporting world-class passenger ship cruising on the Great Lakes.


           
           Wisconsin's Wetland Gems

            In celebration of American Wetlands Month, Wisconsin Wetlands Association launched the Wetland Gems program in May 2009. The program aims to increase awareness of and appreciation for the state's wetlands.
