The summit is designed for urban advocates, non-governmental organizations, local, state and federal officials, and other stakeholders from Great Lakes metro communities seeking to use the stimulus bill and other federal support to promote sustainable and equitable cities. Topics include the expansion of weatherization and green jobs, models for regional governance, innovative uses of NSP funds, and Great Lakes restoration. Attendees will gain a birds-eye-view of trends in their field, learn best practice strategies for ensuring maximum impact for older industrial cities, and explore opportunities to influence the direction of future federal support. Latest Upper Mississippi River Basin Newsletter The June edition of the Upper Mississippi River Basin Update <http://www.nemw.org/2009-06%20Upper%20Mississippi%20River%20Basin%20New sletter.pdf> is now online. Featured in this edition is the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee's approval of legislation authorizing nearly $35 billion for drinking and clean water infrastructure projects. These projects are funded through the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Funds. Also included in the June edition are articles on the clean water restoration act, climate change legislation, sustainable watershed planning act, renewable fuel standard and land use, as well as environmental restoration appropriations updates under the Environmental Management Program, and the Visions of a Sustainable Mississippi River Conference scheduled for August.
