The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) is seeking a key staff member to
conduct campaign and project management and policy and outreach
activities focusing on statewide, national, and international trends in
green business and education. The Director of Green Jobs & Innovation
will identify positive economic and political developments to strengthen
the OEC's program work on traditional public policy campaigns. The
Director also will build relationships with diverse interests, including
those within the business community, including entrepreneurs, labor
unions, government, and academia. Knowledge of Ohio's business climate,
higher education landscape, and politics is essential. An advanced
degree -- an MPA, MBA, or similar is highly preferred, but not required.

*The Organization*: The OEC's mission is to secure healthy air, land,
and water for all who call Ohio home. The OEC is a statewide, nonprofit
environmental advocacy organization with a full-time staff of 18, a
20-member Board of Directors, more than 100 group members, more than
3,000 individual members, and more than 6,000 e-activists. The OEC's
annual budget is $1.6 million, with three-quarters coming from
foundation grants, and the rest coming from private donors. The Ohio
Environmental Council is Ohio's leading advocate for fresh air, clean
water, and sustainable land use and has a widely respected 40-year
history of innovation, pragmatism, and success. Using legislative
initiatives, legal action, scientific principles, and statewide
partnerships, we secure a healthier environment for Ohio's families and
communities. Additional information about the organization and its
programs can be found on our website, www.theOEC.org.

*The Position*: The OEC seeks to hire a unique, ahead-of-the-curve
professional interested in helping the Ohio Environmental Council to
"unleash the power of green" by building relationships in the
corporate/entrepreneurial, higher education, and government sectors with
leaders who promote green jobs and green business development in the
state of Ohio. Our Director of Green Jobs & Innovation will build these
connections into future OEC policy campaigns. The Director also will
track national and international trends and patterns in, and
applications for, sustainability. This information will add to the
ability of the OEC's staff and membership, as well as to supporters and
legislators, to learn about and promote the most economically and
politically viable approaches to building a cleaner, greener, more
prosperous Ohio.

The Director's primary responsibility will be to provide leadership and
expertise in coordinating and carrying out policy campaigns. This includes:

§ Coordinating and taking on project responsibility for select
ongoing campaigns such developing an Ohio green higher education
directory, participating with the Ohio blue green alliance, building
relationships with state government policy staff, collaborating with
workforce development and green jobs program leaders; and more

clean technologies, business climate)

§ Developing policy positions, in conjunction with other staff

§ Designing and implementing future policy campaigns

§ Building coalitions with business and other critical audiences

§ Focusing on broad clean air and energy issues, particularly
innovative energy production and energy efficiency

§ Having a secondary focus on other programmatic opportunities
related to the OEC's focus areas (e.g., working with the water program
on innovative water treatment solutions and bringing technology trends
to legislative advocacy)

The Director also will engage in statewide advocacy and organizing
efforts in green jobs and business development, participate in local and
state green business development initiatives, and share responsibility
for project fundraising initiatives. Project fundraising
responsibilities include researching funding prospects, writing concept
papers, proposals, and reports, and ensuring that all grant and other
funding deliverables and deadlines are met.

significant leadership qualities, with demonstrated skills in advocacy,
outreach, and policy development. Familiarity with basic business
structures, knowledge regarding the university system of Ohio, and
