There she grew an interest in the natural sciences, Spanish language and studio art. She is currently an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying Biology Conservation and Environmental studies. She spent her junior year studying abroad in Ecuador, where she was introduced to tropical and community conservation. This past summer she lived in northern Wisconsin near Boulder Junction at the UW Limnology research station. This was her first influential introduction to just a few of the Great Lakes issues. She will graduate this spring and plans to work in environmental education around Madison. She would love to resume traveling, especially to Ecuador to pursue a local cooperative project and make connections between communities, working towards similar goals. <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?BiodiversityProject/354de839a3/TEST/9f9129ad7a> - Read Laura's Essays - The Weekly Editorial In this week's Editorial entitled "The Proposed New Berlin Diversion: Opportunities for the jessica100.jpg <https://97a15b229a-custmedia.vresp.com/library/1238432319/f06203fb82/Town%2 0Hall/jessica100.jpg> Compact", Jessica Smith* introduces the first practical test of the Great Lakes Compact in the "straddling community" of New Berlin, Wisconsin. Should and will the city be granted a water diversion to provide water for their citizens and businesses? Jessica writes, "...the Compact requires that applications for exceptions such as that under which New Berlin is applying, clearly indicate that the applicant's need for water 'cannot be reasonably avoided.' Without even a current water conservation plan in place, how can this need be accurately measured?" <http://cts.vresp.com/c/?BiodiversityProject/354de839a3/TEST/d063cab2ac> - Read and Respond to Jessica's Weekly Editorial - *Scroll down for more information on Jessica Smith, the new Great Lakes Town Hall Manager April's Monthly Feature: New Poll!
