Briefing: Community Regeneration, Sustainability and Innovation Act

The Northeast-Midwest Institute and the Northeast-Midwest Congressional
Coalition are assisting the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative
(MVOC), National People's Action, and PUSH Buffalo in organizing a
legislative briefing on the Community Regeneration, Sustainability and
Innovation Act of 2009 (CRSI). The educational briefing will be held
Monday, March 23, 2009, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM in room 2008/9 of the
Capitol Visitors Center. The National Vacant Properties Campaign will
assist with this event.

The CRSI legislation was introduced by Congressmen Tim Ryan (D-OH) and
Brian Higgins (D-NY) in the House of Representatives (H.R. 932
<http://www.nemw.org/hr932.pdf> ), and Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and
Charles Schumer (D-NY) in the Senate (S. 453
<http://www.nemw.org/s453.pdf> ). The CRSI proposes to "authorize the
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to make grants and offer
technical assistance to local governments and others to design and
implement innovative policies, programs, and projects that address
widespread property vacancy and abandonment, and for other purposes."
