Great Lakes Maritime Briefing
 
On Thursday, April 2, at 2:00 PM, in room 2253 of the Rayburn House
Office Building, there will be a congressional staff briefing on Great
Lakes Maritime issues.  Topics to be covered include short sea shipping,
the dredging backlog, and icebreaking assets.  Presenters include:

House Great Lakes Task Force Appropriations Letters
 
The House Great Lakes Task Force is circulating letters to four
appropriations subcommittees.  The letters include the Energy & Water
Subcommittee to address Corps programs such as the dispersal barrier,
Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration program; the Interior &
Environment Subcommittee in support of EPA and FWS programs such as the
Great Lakes Legacy program and the Great Lakes Fish and Wildlife
Restoration program; the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee in
support of Coastal Zone Management funding; and the State and Foreign
Operations Subcommittee in support of programs for the Great Lakes
Fishery Commission and the International Joint Commission.   The
deadline for signing the letters is Wednesday, April 1.

2008 Per Capita Personal Income Data Released
 
The U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis last week
released final 2008 personal income data by state.  Accordingly, the
Northeast-Midwest Institute has updated its table of per capita personal
income <http://www.nemw.org/pci.htm>  by state and region for the years
1998 and 2005-2008.  The table also has a column showing the state's
ranking in 2008 per capita income levels.

Job Openings:  Environmental Policy Analysts
 
The Northeast-Midwest Institute is seeking two highly qualified policy
analysts to focus on ecosystem management and restoration.  One position
will focus on Mid-Atlantic watersheds, including the Chesapeake Bay and
Delaware River.  The other position will focus on Midwest watersheds,
such as the Upper Mississippi River and the Great Lakes.
 
The policy analysts will work with diverse regional stakeholders, as
well as bipartisan coalitions within the United States Senate and House
of Representatives, in order to advance regional resource management,
restoration, and protection strategies.  They will be supervised by a
senior policy analyst, and will be part of an ecosystem team that
focuses on several environmental quality issues.  Click here
