SHIPPING SEASON UPDATE

The Great Lakes marine traffic line-up changed slightly over the weekend
(Friday's press release attached)...

It now appears that the 2009 Great Lakes navigation season will start
TODAY - Monday, March 30 - with a late afternoon arrival of the Port's
1st Laker - the Alpena - through the Duluth Entry on her way to Lafarge
North America, Superior. She's traveled from Alpena, Michigan through
the Soo Locks to get here. Allowing for ice conditions & travel time,
the dock expects an approximate 4 p.m. arrival

The James R. Barker has been loading coal since early morning and should
be on her way from MERC to Presque Isle, Michigan by mid-afternoon today
as reported earlier. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Alder has been out
most of the day opening up shipping channels along the North Shore and
here in the Duluth-Superior harbor.
