Site of the Month: Great Lakes Echo

GLIN's May Site of the Month is Great Lakes Echo, a project of the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism at Michigan State University. The site provides quality reporting on environmental issues in the Great Lakes region. Content is produced by Knight Center students or by journalists working for the center. Some content is also provided by students reporting out of MSU's professional capital news bureau in Lansing, Mich.
Draft of St. Clair River report released for public comment

The report examines physical processes and possible ongoing changes in the St. Clair River and their impacts on levels of Lake Michigan-Huron and evaluates potential remedial options. Funded equally by the U.S. and Canadian governments, the study is being conducted by the binational, independent International Upper Great Lakes Study Board at the request of the International Joint Commission under the authority of the Boundary Waters Treaty.

In an effort to conserve critical natural and cultural marine resources, the U.S. Departments of Interior and Commerce are partnering with federal, state and territorial agencies to form a National System of Marine Protected Areas (MPA).
