Dear Great Lakes Friends, The U.S. Congress is poised to fully fund the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Yesterday a House-Senate conference committee wrapped up negotiations over funding levels for environmental and natural resource agencies. As part of that bill (HR 2996-Interior & Environment appropriations act for 2010), $475 million was provided to the GLRI! Both the U.S. House and Senate must pass this bill and then the President must sign it before it becomes law. The House and Senate are expected to act this week. Because the bill also includes a continuing resolution to fund the government through the early part of December, it will be sent to the President quickly for his signature. Attached is a summary of the Interior-EPA funding bill. Below is also the GLRI language from the appropriations bill. For more information, go to http://appropriations.house.gov/.
