Stone Lab Open House on Lake Erie Set for Saturday

September 8, 2009

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

PUT-IN-BAY, OH - Have you ever been curious about the Lake Erie science that
takes place at Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island? Do you want to take a peek
inside Cooke Castle or peer down from Perry's Lookout? Well, grab the
opportunity at the 12th Annual Friends of Stone Lab (FOSL) Open House from
11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009. 

 

Free transportation to Gibraltar Island will be provided from the Ohio State
University's Research Building on South Bass Island next to the Aquatic
Visitors Center, formerly the state fish hatchery. Guests will enjoy tours
of the 6.5-acre island, including a view of Cooke Castle; lectures and
laboratory sessions; and historical photos, summer class information, and
publications. Tours of historic South Bass Island Lighthouse and the Aquatic
Visitors Center will also be available, but transportation will not be
provided.

FOSL is non-profit group dedicated to donating time and money to assist with
the planning and funding of the Laboratory. Since its creation in 1981, FOSL
has raised more than $1 million in endowments; purchased equipment;
supported scholarships for over 500 students; and funded research assistants
and visiting professors. Information about joining FOSL can be found at
