An industry, academia and state government partnership is "greening" Michigan's marina industry - Congresswoman Candice Miller to speak at special open house. Congresswoman Candice Miller will be speaking on the topic of "Green and Clean Marinas: The perfect balance of environment and economics in Michigan" at a special open house in Harrison Township, Mich.  In addition, media and guests will learn about the greening of Michigan's marinas, meet Michigan Clean Marina Program leaders, and tour two certified Michigan Clean Marinas, MacRay and Belle Maer Harbors, which are located side-by-side on Lake St. Clair.

WHAT:  Presentation on the greening of Michigan's marinas, meet and greet with program leaders and a tour of two certified clean marinas.

WHEN:  September 28, 2009, 1 - 4 p.m.

The Michigan Boating Industries Association, Michigan Sea Grant College Program and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality joined forces several years ago in a unique and productive partnership to help the marina industry implement voluntary environmental best management practices.  The partnership has been expanded to include the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth.  The result: the Michigan Clean Marina Program, which has certified 32 marinas and harbors as Michigan Clean Marinas.  An additional 43 facilities have pledged and are working toward certification.
