Speakers cover contracting with the government at two day

workshop in Detroit

Detroit - Great Lakes leaders will present information on upcoming potential contract opportunities in the region for

large and small businesses during a two day event at the 7th annual Society of American Military Engineers, SAME,

small business workshop.



Commanders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes region will be looking for potential contractors to

compete for upcoming Corps work in this area.



During the first day of the SAME workshop District Commanders Col. Vincent V. Quarles from the Chicago District,

Lt. Col. James B. Davis from the Detroit District; and Lt. Col. Daniel B. Snead from the Buffalo District will discuss

potential for contracts associated with the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, GLRI, in their geographic area of

responsibility.



At the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Workshop, April 14, topics will focus on the interagency mission which

targets the most significant problems in the region, including invasive aquatic species, non-point source pollution, and

contaminated sediment. The work scheduled in the Great Lakes is an effort to protect, maintain, and restore the

chemical, biological, and physical integrity of this valuable resource.



As part of the discussion about GLRI opportunities, they will also point out how indefinite delivery/ indefinite

quantity, IDIQs, contracts are awarded at the two day workshop being held in Detroit.



On the second day of the SAME Small Business Workshop, April 15, the three District Commanders will discuss

additional Corps contracting opportunities, including Civil Works projects, while being joined by Lt. Col. Stephen

Bales, deputy district commander from the Louisville District, who will talk about military contract opportunities that

span the entire Great Lakes and Ohio River region.
