IJC Strengthens Scientific Capacity in Windsor Office

Three New Scientists to Meet Media December 9th

 

[Windsor, Ontario] - The Great Lakes Regional Office (GLRO) of the
International Joint Commission (IJC) is pleased to announce three
physical scientists have been added to the professional staff.  This
increase in scientific expertise will dramatically enhance the ability
of the GLRO to provide advice to the IJC as required under the Great
Lakes Water Quality Agreement.  IJC Canadian Co-Chair Joe Comuzzi, U.S.
Co-Chair Lana Pollack and the three new scientists will be available to
the media at 10:30 am, Thursday, December 9, 2010.

 

WHO:   IJC Canadian Co-Chair Joe Comuzzi (former six-term Member of
Parliament)

             IJC US Co-Chair Lana Pollack (former Michigan State Senator
and former president, Michigan Environmental Council)

 

Three new physical scientists who have joined the GLRO staff:

Antonette Arvai, licensed professional engineer and former pilot plant
engineer with the Water Department, Windsor Utilities Commission;

Raj Bejankiwar, former water quality specialist with the Essex Region
Conservation Authority where he strengthened their water quality
monitoring program; 

John Wilson, former senior environmental officer with the Ontario
Ministry of Environment where he focused on ensuring that industry
comply with provincial and federal environmental legislation.

WHY:   Strengthening the scientific capacity at the Great Lakes Regional
Office will help the IJC provide state-of-the-art scientific advice to
the governments of the U.S. and Canada regarding Great Lakes
restoration.  Such advice will help the governments respond to
challenges ranging from protecting the quality of drinking water to
improving the safety of beaches for swimming.
