Dear Friend of the Great Lakes:

The 2010 Semiannual Meeting of the Great Lakes Commission and "Great Lakes
Days in Washington" will be held Feb. 22-24. These events provide a great
opportunity for the region's policymakers and opinion leaders, as well as
members of Congress and staff, to share priorities for the region. Promoting
our Great Lakes federal policy agenda is more important than ever this year
following the approval of the new Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. It is
important that we take this time to thank Congress and the Administration
and make sure they recognize that continued investment in the Great Lakes
will yield significant environmental and economic benefits.

Scheduled Events
The Great Lakes Commission Semiannual Meeting will start at 1 p.m. on Feb.
22 and conclude at noon on Feb. 23. Meeting events will be held at the
Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel (14th and K Streets, NW). Confirmed speakers
include Peter Silva, U.S. EPA assistant administrator for water; Cam Davis,
U.S. EPA senior advisor to the administrator; and Jo-Ellen Darcy, U.S. Army
assistant secretary for civil works. An evening reception on Feb. 22 will be
held at the hotel, co-sponsored by HDR Inc. and the Government of Quebec.

The Great Lakes Commission, as well as the Healing Our WatersR-Great Lakes
Coalition and other regional organizations, will be visiting congressional
offices throughout the week. A joint briefing session and other preparatory
sessions will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 23. A reception
sponsored by the Healing Our WatersR - Great Lakes Coalition and the
Government of Canada will be held at the Canadian Embassy on the evening of
Feb. 23.

The Great Lakes Congressional Breakfast Reception on Feb. 24 will be held in
Room 2168 (Gold Room) of the Rayburn House Office Building from 8-9:30 a.m.
The reception includes a continental breakfast sponsored by the Great Lakes
Commission and Northeast-Midwest Institute. Invited guests include members
of the Great Lakes Congressional Delegation, Great Lakes governors, mayors
and tribes, and congressional staff.

If you have questions about these events, please contact Tim Eder
(teder at glc.org), executive director, or Matt Doss (mdoss at glc.org), policy
