("Hook, line & sinker: by Annie Zelm, June 5 Register). The price of $50 per fish and seizing of personal property seems to be a valid figure and justice for willfully taking unlawful fish. My concerns are with the fact that the Bay Shore Power Plant has been a known killer of huge numbers of fish, yet they have not been stopped and continue the killing. It has been known for nearly 50 years the Bay Shore Ohio Edison-FirstEnergy installation has been killing massive amounts of larval, infant and adult fish per year without any accounting for the impact to the natural resource and fisheries of Lake Erie and particularly the Western Basin. Nobody had established an economic value to the impact of killing these fish until a report was released June 3. This report established an economic loss of just less than $30 million, based much lower price per fish. It would be nice to make a judgment against First Energy using the same pricing schedule. The recreational value for smallmouth bass in that report was $16.77. It would be interesting to also see the value used for walleye. We must force Bay Shore Ohio Edison- FirstEnergy to install cooling towers and stop the senseless killing of our game fish and make it pay for restoration of the diminished species.
