For Immediate Release Contact: Nick Schroeck (313) 820-7797 Monday, March 15, 2010 Schroeck Named Great Lakes Environmental Law Center Executive Director Nick Schroeck has been named Executive Director of the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center, an independent, not-for-profit, public interest environmental law organization. Schroeck, who has been a volunteer attorney with the organization since 2008, was selected as Executive Director by the GLELC board of directors. “We are excited to have attracted such a skilled candidate for the position, and the board is confident that Nick’s proven leadership abilities and knowledge of environmental issues will truly be an asset for our organization and for the environment,” said Kathryn Loomis, Board President. Before being named Executive Director of the GLELC, Schroeck served as a regional representative for the National Wildlife Federation out of their Great Lakes office. Prior to that, he was a Sea Grant Fellow with the Great Lakes Commission. “While the Great Lakes region has been blessed with effective advocates, there has been an unfortunate lack of available public interest environmental legal services,” Schroeck said. “We look forward to serving the unmet legal needs of environmental and community organizations in Michigan.” Noah Hall, founder and board treasurer of the GLELC, said “I am very pleased that we have grown so quickly in both effective work for our clients, and in organizational capacity, as demonstrated by Nick’s hiring as Executive Director. We are grateful for the generous support of the Erb Family Foundation, The Joyce Foundation, and the in-kind donation from Wayne State University Law School in order to expand our operations.” The GLELC has a close partnership with the Wayne State University Law School Environmental Clinic, providing an opportunity for students to learn the critical skills of policy advocacy and environmental legal strategy. Schroeck teaches the Environmental Law Clinic and supervises the students’ work on GLELC projects. ### The Great Lakes Environmental Law Center (GLELC) is an independent, not-for-profit, public interest environmental law organization established in 2008 “to protect the world’s greatest freshwater resource and the communities that depend upon it.” It is located in midtown Detroit and has a board and staff of dedicated and innovative environmental attorneys to address our most pressing environmental challenges.
