LEMTA Supports Ohio Sea Grant Efforts through Lake Erie Day Proceeds

March 17, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLUMBUS, OH - The partnership between Ohio Sea Grant and the Lake Erie
Marine Trades Association (LEMTA) has again provided support for Lake Erie
research, education, and outreach. Thanks to the offer by LEMTA to donate
one dollar from each ticket purchased on Lake Erie Day at the Cleveland
Mid-America Boat & Fishing Show in January, Sea Grant has received a check
for nearly $1,500. The funds will be used to continue Sea Grant's efforts to
protect Lake Erie and educate the next generation of Great Lakes managers.

"LEMTA has been instrumental in many of our greatest achievements," says Dr.
Jeff Reutter, Director of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory, Ohio State
University's island campus on Lake Erie. "Through the booth space LEMTA
donates to us at the boat show, we have been given a great outreach
opportunity to teach the public more about the Clean Marinas Program, the
Clean Boater Program, and the Shrink-Wrap Recycling Program. These are great
ways for many people to do their part to protect and improve the Lake Erie
ecosystem."

As the warmest, shallowest, and biologically most productive of the Great
Lakes, Lake Erie is Ohio's most valuable natural resource. More than 50% of
all fish caught in the Great Lakes come from Lake Erie.

"I think the public sometimes underestimates the impact Lake Erie has on our
economy and regional ecosystem," says Show Manager and LEMTA President Ken
Alvey. "Part of our mission at LEMTA is to use the boat show to spread the
word about great programs like Sea Grant. Our relationship has produced a
lot of positive results and I am happy to donate part of our admission price
to support research and education taking place at Ohio State. LEMTA's
members in large and small communities across the Lake Erie coast benefit
greatly from Sea Grant initiatives."

The Ohio State University's Ohio Sea Grant program is part of NOAA Sea
Grant, a network of 32 Sea Grant programs dedicated to the protection and
sustainable use of marine and Great Lakes resources. For information on Ohio
Sea Grant and Stone Lab, visit ohioseagrant.osu.edu

Stone Laboratory is the nation's oldest freshwater biological field station
and the center of Ohio State's teaching and research on Lake Erie. Stone Lab
offers 25 college-credit science courses each summer for undergraduate and
graduate students, advanced high school students, and educators. To find a
