*Sarnia, Ontario *––* Celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity 2010,

the beauty of Lambton’s World Class Natural Areas in Carolinian Canada – a
3-day event not to be missed!*

In this *International Year of Biodiversity,* local naturalist groups,
Sarnia Urban Wildlife Committee, Lambton Wildlife Incorporated, Sydenham
Field Naturalists and Friends of Pinery Park, are joining forces with
*Carolinian
Canada Coalition and Ontario Nature*, to showcase the rich diversity of
Carolinian Canada's coasts and Lambton County's watersheds, through a
variety of presentations, workshops, field trips, and a special evening
cruise on the St. Clair River aboard the Duc D’Orleans II.

Friday, May 28, will feature a thought-provoking talk from the *Environmental
Commissioner of Ontario, Gord Miller* on ”Re-casting a Vision for a
Biodiversity Strategy for Ontario.” In 2001, an ambitious landscape plan,
the Big Picture / Greenway Initiative, was developed. Hundreds of groups,
including all the conference partners, have been working together to make
this vision a reality. A variety of speakers will explore how much progress
has been made, and what new challenges and opportunities are emerging, in
the face of serious global declines in biodiversity.

Carolinian Canada Coalition will hold their 4th Annual General Meeting and
Conservation Awards Ceremony on Friday. The Coalition is proud to announce
the 2009-10 Conservation Award recipients: *Stewart Hilts*, the *Bkejwanong
Eco-Keepers*, *Wayne & Lynda Buck*, *Doug Dennis*, the *Thames Talbot Land
Trust* and *Ontario Nature*. Then board the *legendary Duc*
*D’Orleans* *II*for a cruise on the St. Clair River with local
speakers and a live
world-music concert: *Migration of the Monarchs*.

Ontario Nature will hold their 79th Annual General Meeting and Awards
ceremony followed by a Wine and Cheese on Saturday, May 29. Later, keynote
speaker *Jack Imhof*, noted aquatic biologist, will speak on “Navigating
Through the Biodiversity of Canada’s Stream Corridors: A Personal Voyage.”
Also on offer are several fun and informative field trips, including a tour
of *Walpole Island*, Sarnia’s beautiful* Canatara Park* and a Natural Areas
Highlights bus tour. Participants can also attend hands-on workshops on
woodcarving, geo-caching, and naturalized landscaping.

*Listen, learn, be inspired.* This major conservation event offers great
opportunities for backyard naturalists, conservation professionals,
educators, planners, businesses and youth to find out about the wonders of
the natural world right on their doorstep. Presentations will cover a range
of topics including biodiversity hotspots, *climate change and the green
economy*, reptiles and amphibians, and more.

>From a $10 cruise ticket or $35 evening pass to a $275 3-day Explorer
Package, there is something for everyone interested in nature at this
conference. Participants can register on-line at www.carolinian.org or at
the door. Major sponsors of this event include Shell Environmental Fund,
