*Exploring Our Watersheds*** *May 28-30, 2010* * * *Sarnia, Ontario *––* Celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity 2010, connect with like minded individuals in the conservation community and enjoy the beauty of Lambton’s World Class Natural Areas in Carolinian Canada – a 3-day event not to be missed!* * * In this *International Year of Biodiversity,* local naturalist groups, Sarnia Urban Wildlife Committee, Lambton Wildlife Incorporated, Sydenham Field Naturalists and Friends of Pinery Park, are joining forces with *Carolinian Canada Coalition and Ontario Nature*, to showcase the rich diversity of Carolinian Canada's coasts and Lambton County's watersheds, through a variety of presentations, workshops, field trips, and a special evening cruise on the St. Clair River aboard the Duc D’Orleans II. Friday, May 28, will feature a thought-provoking talk from the *Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, Gord Miller* on ”Re-casting a Vision for a Biodiversity Strategy for Ontario.” In 2001, an ambitious landscape plan, the Big Picture / Greenway Initiative, was developed. Hundreds of groups, including all the conference partners, have been working together to make this vision a reality. A variety of speakers will explore how much progress has been made, and what new challenges and opportunities are emerging, in the face of serious global declines in biodiversity. Carolinian Canada Coalition will hold their 4th Annual General Meeting and Conservation Awards Ceremony on Friday. The Coalition is proud to announce the 2009-10 Conservation Award recipients: *Stewart Hilts*, the *Bkejwanong Eco-Keepers*, *Wayne & Lynda Buck*, *Doug Dennis*, the *Thames Talbot Land Trust* and *Ontario Nature*. Then board the *legendary Duc* *D’Orleans* *II*for a cruise on the St. Clair River with local speakers and a live world-music concert: *Migration of the Monarchs*. Ontario Nature will hold their 79th Annual General Meeting and Awards ceremony followed by a Wine and Cheese on Saturday, May 29. Later, keynote speaker *Jack Imhof*, noted aquatic biologist, will speak on “Navigating Through the Biodiversity of Canada’s Stream Corridors: A Personal Voyage.” Also on offer are several fun and informative field trips, including a tour of *Walpole Island*, Sarnia’s beautiful* Canatara Park* and a Natural Areas Highlights bus tour. Participants can also attend hands-on workshops on woodcarving, geo-caching, and naturalized landscaping. *Listen, learn, be inspired.* This major conservation event offers great opportunities for backyard naturalists, conservation professionals, educators, planners, businesses and youth to find out about the wonders of the natural world right on their doorstep.
