Meeting Description:
You are invited to an hour-long webcast on Thursday, November 18, at  
10:00 a.m. CST, to discuss the Midwest Innovation Initiative, a  
project to develop and support a pro-growth, pro-wealth creation  
economic framework for the Midwest.

The purpose of this briefing is to report on the findings and  
implications from the first phase of the project. The briefing will be  
conducted by Peter A. Creticos, President and Executive Director of  
the Institute for Work and the Economy and project manager of MI2,  
Geoffrey J.D. Hewings, Director, Regional Economics Analysis  
Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, and Paula  
Nissen, Iowa Workforce Development. There will be ample time for  
discussion and questions. Advance registration is requested.

MI2 was launched in mid-January 2009 by a consortium of state and  
local workforce professionals from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas,  
Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin, and  
includes a partnership with the Midwestern Legislative Conference of  
the Council of State Governments. The Institute for Work and the  
Economy helped to develop and now manages the project. Phase I was  
funded with a grant by the Employment and Training Administration,  
U.S. Department of Labor, to the Minnesota Department of Employment  
and Economic Development as fiscal agent for the project.

Presenter Information:

Name: Peter Creticos

Bio: Peter Creticos is Founder, President and Executive Director of  
the Institute for Work and the Economy, a Visiting Fellow at the  
Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame, and  
Principal of a policy consultancy, Peter A. Creticos, Ltd. He also is  
an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Public Administration at  
the Illinois Institute of Technology and in the Department of  
Political Science and Public Administration at Roosevelt University.

Name: Geoffrey J.D. Hewings

Bio: Geoffrey J.D. Hewings is Director of the Regional Economics  
Applications Laboratory, and Professor - Institute of Government and  
Public Affairs, Geography, Economics, Urban and Regional Planning and  
Agricultural and Consumer Economics, at the University of IllinoisDr.  
Hewings has directed the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory  
(REAL) since its formation in 1989; from 1989 through 2004, it was a  
collaborative venture with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The  
primary focus has been on the development of analytical models of  
urban and regional economies o enhance public policy decision-making.

Name: Paula Nissen

Bio: Paula Nissen is the Public Service Executive for Iowa Workforce  
Development?s (IWD) Regional Research & Analysis Bureau in Des Moines,  
Iowa. Her responsibilities include the development, design, analysis,  
and presentation of Iowa?s Laborshed Studies, Workforce Needs  
Assessment, Fringe Benefit Profiles, Educational Outcomes Measures,  
Iowa College Student Surveys, and Skillshed Analyses among other  
workforce related research.
