Reposting: Dear Friends: To date, Lisa and I have received a number of questions regarding our current position in the gubernatorial contest. The majority of these, of course, center upon our dual endorsements in the primaries. First, I do want to clarify that we have not endorsed Rick Snyder in the general election. Our endorsements for Bernero and Snyder remain limited to their respective primary races. We remain very pleased with the outcomes of those primaries as most on this email list would agree that the two present candidates representing their parties are far better than the possible alternatives. Since the results from those August races came in, however, we have assumed a watchdog roll in tracking both candidates and their stances, statements, and actions on conservation issues. This lack of general election endorsement should not be misconstrued as a show of support for either Snyder or for Bernero; rather, it is the uncommitted position we believe we must maintain to be a credible resource to voters seeking information on either candidate. The tools we are using to inform voters include our Education Fund's video of Snyder and Bernero debating environmental issues in depth, a head-to-head comparison chart, and a daily "candidate tracker" that calls out the candidates on both their positive and negative campaign work on this community's issues. We share many concerns with those on this list about some of Snyder's positions, however we intend to voice those - and seek to impact them - by way of our accountability efforts. I hope this will clarify our current role in this important race. We very much look forward to working with all of you through these final hectic days of the campaign and as we face a new administration and legislature in Lansing.
