Water Stewardship Coordinator 
The Nature Conservancy
Milwaukee, USA
For the next three years, the Coordinator of the North American (US &
Canada)
Regional Water Stewardship Initiative, will develop, enhance, manage and be
the
face of a unique new effort headed by the Alliance for Water Stewardship
(AWS).
As a leading partner of The Nature Conservancy, AWS aims to design, develop,
and
implement an international, voluntary, standards-based water certification
program
that will recognize and reward responsible water managers and water users.
Certification will be awarded to public and private sector participants that
are adding
benefit to communities through water stewardship activities which protect
watersheds and freshwater ecosystems.
Hosted by the Milwaukee Water Council, and working under the supervision of
the
AWS Executive Director, the Coordinator will collaborate with domestic and
overseas
colleagues to build the North American effort within the framework of the
AWS global
initiative. Responsible for developing a diverse stakeholder community, the
Coordinator will cultivate relationships and secure participatory
commitments from
the civil sector, academic community, water technology and services
companies, and
from high-volume industrial and agricultural water users.
Accordingly, the Coordinator will have at least a Master's degree in
international
relations, political science, public policy, freshwater/environmental policy
or related,
and many years of relevant experience. The Coordinator will be an excellent
planner, organizer, executer, communicator, consensus builder, budgeter,
selfmotivator,
fund-raiser, and consummate diplomat.
The Coordinator will be a proven builder of similar efforts of this
magnitude and have
an authentic belief and background in the area of water or a related
environmental
mission. Significant travel is integral to the job, and additional language
skills would
serve the Coordinator well.
