Fish Tumor Database Workshop

Note revised date!

Date: Tuesday, October 5, 2010
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST
Location: 139 Hammermill Building. Penn State Erie, The Behrend
College, Erie, PA.

With funding from the USEPA/GLNPO, the Pennsylvania Department of
Environmental Protection, in partnership with Pennsylvania Sea Grant and
Penn State Erie, has developed a web-based fish tumor database. The database
is a key component of Pennsylvania's efforts to identify and evaluate
delisting targets for the Fish Tumors or Other Deformities Beneficial Use
Impairment. It is intended for use by researchers, regulatory agencies, Area
of Concern (AOC)/Remedial Action Plan (RAP) groups and others interested in
fish tumors.

The searchable database compiles fish tumor data from various sources into a
single, comprehensive, web-based platform. The database is expected to be
useful for calculating background tumor incidence rates for comparison to
study sites and for a variety of basic research purposes.

Penn State University faculty will provide participants with hands-on
training in the use of the database (pm session) and solicit end-user
feedback in order to improve the final product. Trainers will also discuss
statistical issues related to data analysis using Presque Isle Bay data as
an example (am session). The one-day workshop will be held at the Penn State
Erie campus and lunch and snacks will be provided. Limited travel support is
available.

Please note that attendance is limited. To register, or for more
information, contact Jim Grazio with the PA Department of Environmental
Protection at 814-217-9636 or by email at jagrazio at state.pa.us.
