Vote for the Wetland Globe Awards! Deadline 9/30/10. The World Wetland <http://www.worldwetnet.org/> Network (WWN) is currently accepting nominations for the first Wetland Globe Awards, recognizing the best and worst cases of management of internationally-important wetlands from the perspective of non profit organizations (or NGOs). The voting deadline is September 30th. Cast your vote today to recognize a wetland of international importance that is important to you! WWN is an international collaboration founded to help wetland NGO's engage more fully in international wetland conservation efforts, to recognize and support their role, and to raise awareness of international wetland threats. WWN is made up of grassroots wetland organizations and has no allegiance to any countries or international quasi-governmental bodies. The Awards Program provide the means to both share and recognize best practices, as well as highlight wetlands and related issues of concern. Awards will be presented to wetlands in five regions of the globe for each of the three awards listed below based on votes by individuals representing wetland-related NGOs from around the world. Award categories: Blue Globe: Best practice in wetland management Green Globe: Best wetland restoration/creation projects Grey Globe: Wetlands under threat or being mismanaged (e.g., degradation of wetland due to development; loss of wetland due to pollution (e.g. oil spills, water pollution, etc.); degradation due to agriculture/abstraction; active exclusion of local communities from wetland protection.)
