Carp found in Lake Calumet <http://www.glu.org> In late June, after 
extensive netting and sampling of the Chicago Area Waterway System, a 
six-year old bighead carp was found in Lake Calumet, a waterbody miles 
above the electric barrier meant to keep this dangerous invader out of 
the Great Lakes. A new report has been released which attempts to 
determine the life history of the bighead carp and how it might have 
arrived above the barrier.

As millions of people came out to see a fleet of tall ships, they also 
took a stand for the Great Lakes, putting their weight behind a campaign

The American eel is imperiled throughout its range, including in the 
Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River.  The collapse in eel populations 
has been rapid and severe, and the Great Lakes are truly in danger of

With the release of National Pollutant Release Inventory data, it is 
clear that a large toxic legacy is threatening our ecosystem. In

On the heels of the Obama Administration appointing a director to lead 
the battle against the Asian carp, Great Lakes United has joined forces 
with allies to generate over ten thousand voices calling for the 
separation of the Mississippi River from the Great Lakes.

On June 30th, legislation was introduced to the U.S. Senate and House, 
to permanently prevent Asian carp and other invasive species from 
entering the Great Lakes.
