PRESS RELEASE: April 20, 2011 Contact: Teresa Mitchell, 315-646-1000 x202 Survey Shows Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show Drew Visitors From 5 States & Canada Sackets Harbor, NY A survey of approximately 20 percent of the nearly 700 people attending the 2011 Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show shows the event, held each March in Sackets Harbor, NY, drew visitors from five U.S. states and one Canadian province. The annual show is sponsored by the Seaway Trail Foundation that promotes travel and tourism along the 518-mile freshwater shoreline of New York and Pennsylvania. Visitors from Connecticut, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New York State and the Province of Ontario attended the show that featured quilts and wallhangings throughout the three-story Seaway Trail Discovery Center, speakers¹ presentations, demonstrations, vendors, and live music. The 2011 event showcased New York quilters who have published books and/or patterns or have been featured in magazine articles. Ninety-nine percent of those surveyed reported a satisfying experience. Ninety-seven percent of those surveyed indicated that the speakers¹ presentations were a popular addition to the event. The presentations and the quilts on exhibit by fabric designer Nancy Murty were ranked among the best-liked features of the show. Michele Kennedy of Springville, NY, south of Buffalo, won the random drawing for a $25 Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center Gift Shop in-store or online gift certificate. The focus of the 2012 Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show is a ³War of 1812 Bicentennial Quilt Challenge.² More than 100 quilters attending the 2011 show expressed interest in making an 1812 era-style ³cot-to-coffin² (30inch x 70inch) quilt for that competition.
