Position available: Web Developer/Programmer

Description 
The Great Lakes Commission seeks a self-motivated team player to lead
programming and application development, and assist with enhancement and
maintenance of the Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN,
www.great-lakes.net <http://www.great-lakes.net/> ) and associated websites.
This position is a full time, renewable 12-month appointment, which will
provide these functions for both the Great Lakes Commission (www.glc.org)
and the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (www.glfc.org), both based in Ann
Arbor, Mich. The incumbent will share time between these two organizations.
The Great Lakes Commission offers a competitive salary and comprehensive

Responsibilities 
The web developer/programmer is responsible for the programming and
application development for various Great Lakes projects and websites. The
individual will work collaboratively with all of the Commissions' program
areas, supporting the development of various web-based applications,
databases, forms, and secure registration sites. The web
developer/programmer will act as lead on assigned programming tasks while
providing maintenance and support, as needed, to existing web sites.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
*	Design, maintain and update websites and web applications developed
using open source technologies (e.g., Linux, Apache, Mysql, Php)
*	Program secure online registration/payment websites
*	Integrate data from state/federal sources into applications using
web services and other protocols
*	Create forms and other interactive web components
*	Identify and recommend new software and technologies to enhance
website usability and content delivery
*	Assist in creating online database visualizations (e.g., using
ArcView, Google Earth)
*	Provide creative direction to improve website presences and search
engine optimization
*	Serve as webmaster for the GLFC; provide day-to-day website
management and update web content as appropriate
*	Interact with internet service providers to maintain the GLFC's
website
Qualifications 
The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of professional experience in web
programming, database development, secure online registration databases,
content management systems, and web site creation and management. In
addition, the candidate should have a keen knowledge and interest in
web-based applications and how they can be applied to assist Great Lakes
decisionmakers.
The candidate should have proven expertise with the following:
*	html/html5
*	XML
*	css
*	Php5/Php4
*	Javascript/Jquery
*	CMS (Drupal,  Wordpress)
*	Web authoring(using Dream Weaver, etc.) over SSH
*	Web services development
*	Apache web server administration
*	Mysql database administration
*	Linux server administration
		
Additional, preferred skills include:
*	Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline
*	Experience with standard Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Visio)
*	Experience with administering MySQL databases using phpMyAdmin
software
*	Experience with image/design software (Photoshop, InDesign)
*	Experience with online video streaming technologies (e.g., youTube,
Flicker, Flash)
*	Experience with online GIS (ArcView, Google Map, Google Earth)
*	Experience with developing mobile applications
*	Experience with managing email lists
*	Experience with web statistics packages (e.g., Google Analytics)
*	Experience with social networking integration (e.g., Facebook,
Twitter)
*	Experience with program development and grant writing 
*	Familiarity with the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region and
environmental and economic issues
