FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Great Lakes Observing System Launches New Website – www.GLOS.us New GLOS Website Offers Data Users Improved Access to Great Lakes Data, Tools and Information ANN ARBOR, Mich., August 1, 2011 – The Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS), working to coordinate and enhance the network of observations and data access in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River system, announces the launch of its new website – www.GLOS.us . Developed for Great Lakes data users, the new website provides improved access to Great Lakes data, products and tools and the latest GLOS projects. The website features a new design, product launch pages, relevant news and events, access to the Lake Views newsletter, and more information about GLOS projects and recent activities throughout the Great Lakes. Data users can more easily find real-time and historic Great Lakes data and access tools that process data in a meaningful way for Great Lakes decision-makers. The website went through a series of in-person and virtual user tests to ensure that it meets the needs of different types of data users. Inner Circle Media, a digital marketing and website design firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, designed and constructed the site. Adam Mednick, a Research Scientist at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources stated, “[GLOS] provides a key infrastructure for the expansion of beach water-quality ‘nowcasts,’ which can improve public safety and reduce the number of unnecessary advisories and beach closures throughout the Great Lakes. The redesigned GLOS website makes accessing meteorological and hydrodynamic data needed to operate daily nowcast models more efficient -- and makes it easier for state, local, and federal partners to collaborate on the development and implementation of these systems.” GLOS is dedicated to creating a fully integrated, bi-national observing system that provides products and services to decision-makers, resource managers and other data users. In partnership with federal, state and local government agencies, research institutions, industries, private corporations, bi-national organizations, and not for profit organizations, GLOS connects data users with data providers in ways that are supportive of policy and decision-making. ### -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
