There's still time to register forthe August 26 Michigan Chapter Soil and Water Conservation Societytour of diversified agriculture in Calhoun County, Michigan. Thetour will feature conservation practices that help producers becomeMAEAP (Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program)verified.

Our first stop will be a mini-Field Day co-sponsored with MSU Extension, and hosted by Blight Farms, Inc., Albion, Michigan, that will tour cover crop research plots planted in July; discuss research results from cover crop plots planted in previous years; and demonstrate slurry seeding (planting cover crop seed along with liquid manure using a low disturbance tillage tool) in wheat stubble in a long term continuous notill field. Cover crops are considered an essential nutrient management practice.

Our tour will continue on to the Blight Farms livestock operation focusing on MAEAP verification practices. Blight Farms became MAEAP verified in 2006.

Then we will tour Albion College's Nancy G. Held Equestrian Center which was MAEAP verified in 2008. We will have lunch, catered by Albion College Dining Services, in the Equestrian Center's Arena Viewing Room, and then we will tour the Center.

Finally, we will tour Bosserd Family Farm, a popular combination specialty crop farm, traditional livestock crop farm and farm retail business near Marshall. We will tour both the main farm with a focus on existing and proposed MAEAP verification practices, and the retail business center.
